Playing the part of Ilya Afanasyevich Shamrayev in The Seagull gave me the chance to perform in a magical outdoor, woodland venue again – Little Oak Wood in Hampstead Garden Suburb. I always have fond memories of the wood, even when the rain comes. However, we were fortunate to be blessed with brilliant sunshine throughout the entire seven-performance run during mid July. It was great to perform with some fellow familiar faces from the company, Garden Suburb Theatre and also great to meet some fantastic newcomers to the company during the production. The cast was very strong and the audience turnout was good. Fond memories.
The Seagull was one of Anton Chekhov‘s top four plays, which was famously, originally booed when first performed in the late 19th century. The version of the script we used was translated by Christopher Hampton.
